Washington, Mar 5: Former US President Donald Trump expressed disappointment after several Democratic lawmakers staged a walkout during his address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday. Frustrated by their lack of response to his remarks, Trump termed their actions “very sad.”
Addressing the gathering, Trump criticized Democrats for their refusal to applaud or acknowledge his statements. “I look at the Democrats in front of me, and I realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud. Nothing I can do,” he remarked.

He went on to state that even if he achieved historic milestones, such as eradicating a devastating disease or delivering record-breaking economic growth, Democrats would still refuse to show support. "They won’t clap, they won’t stand, and they certainly won’t cheer—no matter what," he said.
The address took a dramatic turn when at least half a dozen Democratic lawmakers walked out in protest. Clad in shirts with the word “Resist” emblazoned on the back, some were also seen carrying placards denouncing the President’s policies.
While Republicans in the chamber enthusiastically backed Trump’s proposals, including his announcement on cutting USAID programs, Democratic members booed in disapproval. The atmosphere grew even more tense as some lawmakers vocally challenged Trump during his speech.
Democratic Representative Gil Cisneros openly confronted the President, shouting, "What about the $400 million Tesla contract?" Meanwhile, several others responded to Trump’s claims regarding reductions in federal spending by audibly rejecting them, with shouts of “Not true,” “Bullshit!” and “Lies” echoing through the chamber.
As the speech progressed, the sharp divide between the two parties became increasingly evident. While Republicans rallied behind the President, Democrats continued to express their opposition, underscoring the ongoing political polarization in Congress.
Trump, reflecting on the situation, lamented the lack of bipartisan support. “Five times I’ve been up here. It’s very sad, and it just shouldn’t be this way,” he said.
With tensions running high in Washington, the episode further highlighted the deep-seated divisions shaping the US political landscape.
