Udupi, Mar 6: In a dramatic turn of events, a police operation to apprehend a wanted suspect escalated into a high-speed chase and violent confrontation, leaving several officers injured.
On March 4, a police team from Nelamangala, Bengaluru, arrived in Manipal to arrest a suspect in a robbery case.
Sub-inspector Somasekhara (40) of Madanayakanahalli police station, along with his team, was tasked with locating and arresting the second accused in a Nelamangala rural police case—one Isaac. Acting on intelligence, the officers tracked Isaac to an apartment on V S Acharya Road, where his girlfriend Sujain was staying.

Around 8 pm, Sujain and her sister entered a nearby mobile shop. Shortly after, a black Mahindra Thar without a number plate arrived, raising suspicions that Isaac was inside. The police team, in two vehicles, an Innova with registration KA-02-MN-5580 and another marked KA-19-MG-2333, began their pursuit.
When the suspect's vehicle took a U-turn and stopped near the mobile shop, Sujain got into the car. The officers, recognizing Isaac, moved in to apprehend him. However, upon realizing he was being confronted by uniformed officers, Isaac allegedly attempted to flee, recklessly accelerating and ramming into police personnel.
During the incident, officer Vishwanath sustained severe injuries after being struck and thrown onto the pavement. Police inspector Narendra Babu and constables Keshavananda, Balaji Singh, and Rayagonda also suffered injuries. Despite multiple attempts by the officers to block his escape, Isaac continued his rampage, reversing at high speed and crashing into the police Innova, causing damage.
The suspect then drove his vehicle into a red Mahindra XUV700 and later into a parked black Hyundai Creta, causing significant damage. As the officers closed in, Isaac deliberately rammed into another police vehicle (KA-19-MG-2333) before fleeing the scene.
The chase continued for approximately three kilometres until Isaac abandoned his vehicle near Mannampalla. Under the cover of darkness, he and his girlfriend fled on foot. His girlfriend, Sujain, was later arrested from Indrali late at midnight and is currently in police custody. Sujain, who was studying law, was living in Manipal with her mother and sister.
Following the incident, a case has been registered at the Manipal police station. A special team has been commissioned to apprehend Isaac.
