Mangaluru, Mar 10: Prasanna A V, aged 59, was admitted to Indiana Hospital & Heart Institute on March 7 with a history of weakness and seizures. Upon investigation, she was diagnosed with a diffuse subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) secondary to an anterior communicating artery (Acom) aneurysmal bleed. Despite the dedicated efforts of the medical team, she was declared brain-dead following a comprehensive evaluation by Dr Elvis Rodrigues, Dr Misri, and Dr Aditya Bharadwaj.
In this difficult moment, the treating team and transplant coordinator Vishwanatha Gowda approached her family to discuss the situation and the possibility of organ donation. Honoring her wishes, Prasanna’s family made the selfless decision to donate her organs, offering a new lease of life to four individuals.

With the support of Indiana Hospital’s skilled medical team, all necessary protocols for organ retrieval were meticulously followed. On March 9, the organ retrieval procedure was successfully conducted, resulting in the retrieval of two kidneys and corneas. One kidney was successfully transplanted at Indiana Hospital & Heart Institute, while the other kidney and corneas were allocated and transferred to Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.
