Udupi, Mar 17: In observance of World Glaucoma Week, Prasad Netralaya, Udupi organized a free glaucoma eye screening camp to raise awareness about glaucoma and other eye diseases.
The camp was held from March 9 to 15 as part of a global initiative to spread awareness about eye health.
The event was inaugurated by Dr Latha Nayak, the district health and family welfare officer, Udupi, who lit the lamp to mark the beginning of the camp. In her address, she emphasized, “In the past treating eye conditions was considered extremely difficult and complicated. Eye diseases such as glaucoma and retinal diseases, which can cause permanent vision loss if left untreated, require immediate attention. Early detection and treatment of conditions like increased intraocular pressure and glaucoma are crucial to prevent permanent damage to eyesight.” She also highlighted the growing concern over vision problems in children and adolescents, stressing the importance of raising awareness about eye care.

Dr Krishna Prasad Koodlu, the medical director of Prasad Netralaya, Udupi, who presided over the event, spoke about how, in the past, people from Udupi had to travel to places like Bengaluru for eye treatments. However, now Prasad Netralaya offers a wide range of eye care treatments, making it more accessible for local patients. He emphasized that people should seek medical advice promptly when facing any eye issues.
The hospital administrator M V Acharya, welcomed the gathering and provided the necessary details for the camp.
