Nagpur, Mar 18: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who had earlier urged citizens to cooperate with the police in maintaining law and order, held a high-level meeting late Monday evening. The meeting, attended by Nagpur district guardian minister and revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, reviewed the tense situation in the city.
The Chief Minister has been closely monitoring developments and has reiterated his appeal to the public not to resort to violence. "Strict action will be taken against those disturbing peace, attacking police, or indulging in vandalism," he warned.

Deputy commissioner of police Niketan Kadam sustained injuries in stone pelting, with reports suggesting he was attacked with an axe. Police sources revealed that a mob resorted to arson and heavy stone pelting in the Mahal area, setting vehicles on fire and causing significant financial damage.
A large police contingent was rushed to the spot to disperse the violent mob. Following the unrest, a curfew was imposed in Nagpur, and authorities are cracking down on miscreants. So far, around 30 people have been detained, and efforts are underway to identify others involved. The police have urged citizens not to fall for rumors and to extend full cooperation.
Meanwhile, political reactions poured in. The Opposition has demanded a thorough probe into the violent clashes, while BJP legislator Praveen Satke alleged that outsiders were involved in the arson. "There was a protest in the morning, which the police managed. But by night, the situation escalated with widespread violence," he said.
NCP-SP Pune chief Prashant Jagtap termed the incident unfortunate and raised concerns over its timing. "At a time when new industries are emerging, and the state is moving towards progress, such incidents create unnecessary unrest. With local body elections approaching, one must question if this is being done deliberately," he remarked.
Authorities have assured that the situation is under control and urged citizens to remain calm and vigilant.
