New Delhi, Mar 18: As NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore begin their journey back to Earth after a nine-month stay at the International Space Station (ISS), Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a warm letter to Sunita Williams, one of India’s most renowned daughters, expressing his hopes for her safe return.

The letter, dated March 1, 2025, was shared by Minister of State in the PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh, on his social media account, offering a glimpse into the Prime Minister’s personal concern and admiration for the astronaut.

"In a time when the entire world waits with bated breath for Sunita Williams’ safe return, Prime Minister Modi has conveyed his heartfelt wishes and concern for this proud daughter of India," Dr. Singh wrote while posting the letter.

In his emotional message, PM Modi wrote, “Though you are thousands of miles away in space, you are always close to our hearts. The entire nation is praying for your health and the successful completion of your mission.”

The Prime Minister also mentioned that during his previous trips to the United States, including meetings with U.S. Presidents, he made it a point to inquire about Williams’ well-being.

Reflecting on his past interaction with Sunita Williams, PM Modi recalled meeting her during his visit to the U.S. in 2016. He also invited her to visit India once she returns from space. “We look forward to hosting you in India after your return. It will be an honor for us to welcome one of our nation’s most illustrious daughters,” the letter read.

PM Modi further expressed the pride that 1.4 billion Indians feel for her accomplishments and praised her recent display of resilience. “Your achievements continue to inspire, and your fortitude during these challenging times is truly commendable,” he wrote.

Dr. Jitendra Singh also shared that PM Modi had recently met former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino, who was asked to personally ensure that the letter, along with the heartfelt wishes of the people of India, reached Williams.

Touched by the gesture, Sunita Williams expressed her deep gratitude to PM Modi and the people of India, according to Dr. Singh.

Vishwaguru wants to take credit for Sunita Williams' success, which is why he has invited her to India. However, had Sunita Williams, Kalpana Chawla or Raja Chari did not migrate to the US, they likely would not have achieved what they have accomplished today. I would suggest that he invest more in the development of the girl child, especially considering the thousands of women who are kidnapped, raped, and trafficked, mainly in the northern states. Whoever achieves something, he wants credit for their achievement. He also hoped to see the Indian Cricket Team win the World Cup so he attended to watch the match and enjoy a share of their glory, but unfortunately, to the disappointment of the entire nation, the team was unable to achieve the feat, and his aspirations were left unfulfilled.
