Bhopal, Mar 19: In a bizarre turn of events, a woman from Madhya Pradesh, presumed dead for over a year and a half, has resurfaced, leaving her family, neighbors, and law enforcement authorities in shock. Her reappearance has raised serious questions, particularly since four men accused of her "murder" have been languishing in jail.
The woman, who had been living in Navali village, Mandsaur, stunned her family when she suddenly returned home. Her father, unable to believe she was alive, immediately took her to the Gandhi Sagar police station in Mandsaur to report her reappearance.

Confirming the development, Taruna Bhardwaj, in-charge of the Gandhi Sagar police station, stated that the woman disclosed how she had initially left with a man named Shahrukh from Bhanpura, Mandsaur. Two days later, she was allegedly "handed over" to another man, also named Shahrukh, in Kota, Rajasthan, where she had been living ever since. She eventually managed to escape and find her way back home.
The woman provided her Aadhaar and voter ID cards to verify her identity. Authorities have since transferred the case to Thandla police station in Jhabua district, where her "murder" had been investigated.
Her father, Ramesh, had mistakenly identified a body in 2023 after watching a video of a fatal truck accident. The body had a tattoo matching her name and a black thread around the leg, leading him to believe it was his daughter. The family performed her last rites, and four men—Imran, Shahrukh, Sonu, and Ejaz—were arrested and jailed for her alleged murder.
Now, with her unexpected return, the accused have filed an application in the local court seeking justice. A senior officer from Thandla police station stated that the case might be reinvestigated if the court orders it. Higher authorities have been informed of the unusual development.
Beyond the wrongful arrests, the woman’s account has raised concerns about a possible human trafficking network, adding another layer of complexity to an already extraordinary case.
