Mumbai, Mar 20: The Bombay High Court has pulled up the Mumbai Police for their inaction and delay in addressing a complaint filed by a 71-year-old woman, who alleged she was subjected to a ‘digital arrest’ through misuse of technology.
The elderly woman had approached the police, claiming that her digital identity and access to essential online services were wrongfully restricted, leaving her helpless. Despite filing a complaint, the authorities allegedly failed to take timely action, prompting her to seek judicial intervention.

Expressing strong discontent over the delay, the court questioned the police’s inefficiency in handling the matter and emphasized the need for swift action in cyber-related offenses, especially when it involves senior citizens. The judges directed the police to submit a detailed report on the steps taken so far and ensure immediate resolution of the complaint.
The case has raised concerns over the rising incidents of digital fraud and the urgent need for law enforcement agencies to strengthen their response mechanisms in handling cyber complaints effectively. Further hearings on the matter are expected in the coming days.
