Udupi, Mar 22: A case has been registered against former minister Pramod Madhwaraj following his speech at a fishermen’s protest in Malpe port on Saturday, March 22.
During his address, Madhwaraj seemingly justified the assault on a woman, stating, "What would we do if thieves entered our house? What would happen if the police were delayed by 5-6 hours? Are we supposed to hit them with a machete or sword? Who did that? The accused—did he cause any harm to the woman?"
His remarks were perceived as an attempt to justify the assault and encourage criminal behaviour. The speech, deemed provocative and inciting, led to a formal complaint being filed at the Malpe Police Station.
Authorities registered the case, citing Madhwaraj’s inflammatory comments as a potential incitement to public disorder.
The investigation is currently underway.
