Chennai, Mar 23: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is not only working for the welfare of the state but also striving to safeguard the interests of other southern states on the issue of parliamentary constituency delimitation, said CPI state secretary R Mutharasan on Saturday.
Addressing reporters, Mutharasan accused the BJP of attempting to enforce delimitation based on population without parliamentary discussion, calling the move ‘lacking transparency.’

“While leaders like Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh assure that no seat will be reduced, they also state that delimitation will be based on population, which could severely impact southern states,” he said.
To counter this, Stalin convened an all-party meeting on March 5, where most parties, barring a few, backed the resolutions against the delimitation proposal. Further discussions were held in Chennai on Saturday, with leaders from Kerala, Karnataka, and other states voicing their concerns.
Mutharasan recalled that similar concerns were raised during Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenures, but both leaders deferred the delimitation process in consideration of state interests.
Taking a jibe at Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai, he remarked, “If Annamalai is a true patriot, he should protest against the BJP, which is acting against the welfare of the state.”
