Mangaluru, Mar 23: Students of MA journalism & mass communication at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) in association with Institute of Karate & Martial Arts (IKMA) organised a practical demonstration & workshop session on self-defence for women named ‘The power within’ on Sunday, March 23 at Samvada Youth Resource Centre Jeppu.
Resource person for the event was Nithin N Suvarna, who is the chief trainer at Institute of Karate & Martial Arts (IKMA). He said self-defence is an innate feeling, but it comes out only when there is sufficient confidence & proper skillset to exhibit when in need.

He effectively demonstrated various techniques and moves of self-defence with the help of 3 other resource people along with him, Ashni, Avni & Janvi who are national level medal winners in karate and martial arts.
The participants took part in the event with interest and performed the acts as shown by the instructors. This event acted as a scaffolding to bring out the skills required by them to protect themselves while in danger. This event also had male participants who were given the understanding about why it is important to have equality in terms of treating women. The session ended with a Q&A where attendees clarified about their doubts regarding self-defence.
Wilson & Ashwini were the staff conveners & Kashyap was the student convener for this event.
