New Delhi, Mar 23: On the eve of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, observed annually on March 24, President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the importance of collective action to eliminate TB. In her message, she commended the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, for its efforts in raising awareness and engaging the public in the fight against the disease.
“On World Tuberculosis Day, I appreciate the National Campaign led by the NTEP, which aims to build awareness through public participation,” President Murmu stated.
This year’s theme, "Yes, we can end TB: Commit, Invest, and Deliver," calls for a global commitment to ending the infectious disease. President Murmu acknowledged TB as a major health challenge that continues to affect millions globally, with both social and economic impacts.

She noted that India's sustained efforts under the NTEP have contributed to a significant decline in TB cases over the last decade. She urged all stakeholders to continue working together toward making India TB-free.
Ahead of World TB Day, the Health Ministry also underscored the importance of early TB diagnosis for effective treatment. In a social media post, the Ministry urged people to recognize TB symptoms, such as persistent cough, night sweats, chest pain, and weight loss, and seek testing if necessary.
According to the WHO Global TB Report 2024, India has made remarkable progress, with TB incidence dropping by 17.7% from 2015 to 2023, more than double the global average decline. TB-related deaths have also reduced by 21.4% in the same period.
