Suspended MLAs must realise mistake, strive to be better representatives - Speaker U T Khader

Mangaluru, Mar 24: Speaker U T Khader, addressing the suspension of 18 MLAs, stated that they should not see it as a punishment but as an opportunity to acknowledge their mistake and work towards being responsible elected representatives.

Speaking to meia on Monday, March 24, he said, “In the past, suspensions usually lasted for two days or until the session ended. However, this time, the financial bill was being passed on the last day of the session, and no one could oppose it, as it is crucial for the state’s functioning. If the bill had not been passed, even a single rupee could not have been withdrawn from the treasury. The suspended MLAs knew that their suspension would last only for a day, as it was imposed on the final day,” Khader explained.

He further stated, “The suspended MLAs need to realize their mistake. If they do, we will consider revoking the suspension. However, if they repeat their actions or fail to show remorse within six months, we have provisions to extend the suspension.”

Regarding the honey trap allegations, Khader said, “As chief minister Siddaramaiah has stated, the issue will be taken seriously, and a high-level probe will be conducted.”

On the installation of flex banners, Khader emphasized the need for a clear policy, stating that the concerned departments and corporations should take appropriate action.
