New Delhi, Mar 24: The Central government has officially raised the salaries, allowances, and pensions of Members of Parliament (MPs), with the revised structure taking effect from April 1, 2023, as per a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs on Monday.
MPs' salaries have been increased from ?1 lakh to ?1.24 lakh per month. Daily allowance during parliamentary sessions has been raised from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500.
Monthly pension for former MPs has been increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 31,000. For every additional year of service beyond five years, the pension increment has been revised from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500.

Alongside salary revisions, MPs continue to enjoy several benefits, including a constituency allowance, office allowance, free domestic flights, first-class train travel, and mileage allowances for road travel. They are also entitled to 50,000 free electricity units and 4,000 kilolitres of water annually. MPs receive rent-free government housing in New Delhi for their five-year term, including bungalows, apartments, or hostel rooms based on seniority. Those who opt out of government accommodation receive a monthly housing allowance.
The last major revision in MPs' salaries was implemented in April 2018. The new hike aligns with inflation and rising living costs, ensuring that lawmakers' remuneration keeps pace with economic conditions. The announcement comes amid the ongoing Budget session of Parliament, reinforcing the government's commitment to updating lawmakers' financial packages.
