Udupi, March 24: A suo-motu case has been registered against Manju Kola, a leader from the fishermen’s community, at Malpe police station for delivering a provocative speech during a fishermen's protest in Malpe.
During his speech, Kola referred to a previous incident in Gangolli, warning authorities not to repeat it.
He recalled how, when one fisherman was arrested, around 10,000 fishermen united, forcing the Superintendent of Police to intervene and secure the release of the arrested individual. Kola further urged officials to change the section under which arrests were being made before March 25, warning that failure to do so would lead to a repeat of the Gangolli incident.

Additionally, Kola demanded the release of four women who had been arrested, threatening to block the highway from Gangolli to Mangaluru if their demands were not met. His statements, which raised concerns about potential unrest, prompted the Malpe police to file a suo-motu case against him.
The investigation is ongoing.
