Mumbai, Mar 29: Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra is facing legal trouble after three cases were registered against him at Khar Police Station in Mumbai. The complaints were filed by the Mayor of Jalgaon city, a hotelier, and a businessman from Nashik.
Despite being summoned twice for questioning, Kamra has not appeared before the Mumbai Police. The investigation into the allegations is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Madras High Court granted Kamra anticipatory bail till April 7, considering his plea citing safety concerns. Kamra, who moved to Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, in 2021 for a quieter life, approached the Madras High Court instead of Maharashtra due to security fears.
His counsel argued that the allegations stemmed from his stand-up show ‘Naya Bharat’ and did not warrant custodial interrogation. Kamra’s legal team also claimed he faced threats from ruling party members and Maharashtra ministers, raising concerns over his safety if arrested.
While the FIR was registered in Mumbai, Kamra secured relief from the Madras High Court, which acknowledged his fears of physical harm. The case continues to stir controversy as legal proceedings unfold.
