Mumbai police impose one-month ban on drones, paragliders, and aerial devices

Mumbai, Apr 3: In a bid to enhance security and prevent potential threats, the Mumbai Police have enforced a month-long ban on the operation of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliders, and hot air balloons within city limits. The prohibition, implemented under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, will be in effect from April 4 to May 5.

Authorities have expressed concerns that hostile elements could exploit these aerial devices to target VVIPs, endanger civilian lives, damage public property, and disrupt law and order within the Mumbai Police Commissionerate jurisdiction.

According to the directive, all aerial activities involving drones, paragliders, and other similar devices are strictly prohibited unless explicitly authorized by the DCP (Operations) or used for police surveillance purposes.

“Preventive measures are essential to avert any attempts of sabotage through these devices. We have implemented these restrictions as a necessary precaution,” a senior police official stated.

Violators of the directive will face prosecution under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which addresses disobedience of lawful orders issued by public servants.

The Mumbai Police have urged citizens to comply with the restrictions, emphasizing that the move is aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining order in the city.
