Mandya, Apr 3: A horrific accident on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway claimed the lives of four people on Thursday after their car was hit by a speeding luxury Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Airavat bus near Tubinakere village, close to Mandya city.

The victims were identified as 51-year-old Satyananda Raje Urs, his wife 45-year-old Nischita, 62-year-old Chandru, and his wife 50-year-old Suvedini Rani.

According to the police, the tragedy unfolded when the driver of the car, while exiting the expressway onto the service road, suddenly attempted to re-enter the highway. Failing to notice the rapidly approaching bus, the car was struck from behind with devastating impact.

The collision left the car completely mangled, and all four occupants died instantly. Authorities had to deploy a crane to separate the wreckage from the bus before retrieving the bodies. The accident caused a major traffic jam on the expressway.

Senior officials, including Southern Range DIG M.B. Boralingaiah and Mandya SP Mallikarjun Baladandi, arrived at the scene to oversee rescue operations and assess the situation.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was triggered by the driver’s sudden and miscalculated maneuver. However, officials are conducting further inquiries to establish the exact sequence of events.

In response to frequent accidents on the expressway, authorities have implemented strict safety measures, including a speed limit of 100 km per hour. The ill-fated car was traveling from Bengaluru towards Mysuru at the time of the crash.
