New Delhi, Apr 5: The national capital is set to witness a major milestone in public healthcare as the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) will officially be launched in Delhi on Saturday.

The announcement comes following a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday, where it was confirmed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the Delhi government and the Centre to implement the flagship healthcare scheme.

“This is a crucial step towards strengthening Delhi’s healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that our most vulnerable families receive timely and quality medical assistance,” said CM Gupta.

Under this partnership, eligible families in Delhi will be entitled to free and cashless treatment worth up to Rs 10 lac annually Rs 5 lac provided by the Centre and another Rs 5 lac top-up by the Delhi government.

The scheme will cover over 1,961 medical procedures, including surgeries, ICU care, medicines, diagnostics and hospitalisation, offering comprehensive support across government and private hospitals.

A total of 91 hospitals have already been empanelled under the scheme—comprising 46 private hospitals, 34 under the Delhi government and 11 managed by the central government.

The initiative gained momentum after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) returned to power in the capital this February after nearly 26 years. The Ayushman Bharat scheme was among the first major decisions taken by CM Gupta's Cabinet during its inaugural meeting on February 20.

Officials hope the scheme will bring about a transformative change in the lives of the underprivileged by ensuring access to quality healthcare without financial burden.
