Harrisburg, Nov 5: Pennsylvania health officials have reported the state's sixth measles-associated death in 2026 as the outbreak continues to spread across the United States.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health said the latest death involved an unvaccinated resident of Jefferson County who tested positive for measles. The department confirmed the death on Wednesday, November 4, but did not disclose further details, citing privacy concerns.
Pennsylvania has recorded 1,467 confirmed measles cases across 45 counties this year, including 283 hospitalisations, as of November 4. The state also reported 34 newly confirmed infections since November 2.

The latest fatality brings the number of confirmed measles-associated deaths in Pennsylvania this year to six. They include three residents of Lancaster County, two from Jefferson County and one from Mifflin County.
Pennsylvania has emerged as the epicentre of the US measles outbreak in 2026, accounting for a significant share of infections reported nationwide. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 4,852 confirmed cases had been reported across the country as of October 29.
The latest death comes days after New York reported its first measles-associated child death in more than 30 years. The incident has added to concerns over the resurgence of the highly contagious virus in parts of the northeastern United States.
The Pennsylvania health department said it was also aware of another reported death in Franklin County in October but had not found sufficient evidence to classify it as measles-associated as of November 4.
The department has urged residents to ensure they are fully vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), with two doses providing about 97 per cent protection against measles.
