Indian National stabbed to death in Canada’s Rockland area; suspect in custody

Ottawa, Apr 5: In a tragic incident, an Indian national was stabbed to death in the Rockland area near Ottawa, Canada, the Indian Embassy confirmed on Saturday morning.

While specific details of the incident are still awaited, the Embassy stated that Canadian police have taken one suspect into custody in connection with the case.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of an Indian national in Rockland near Ottawa, due to stabbing. Police has stated a suspect has been taken into custody. We are in close contact through a local community association to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved kin," the Indian Embassy in Canada posted on X.

Local Canadian media reports also indicated that one person was killed in Clarence-Rockland early this morning, and another individual was arrested. However, it remains to be confirmed whether the reports pertain to the same case highlighted by the Indian mission.

Meanwhile, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has advised residents of Rockland to expect heightened police presence in the area as investigations continue.

The Indian diaspora in the region has expressed shock over the incident, with community leaders urging authorities to ensure justice is delivered promptly.
