Kundapur, Jan 18: Thieves gained entry into a house in Kumbrikodlu near Shirur, Byndoor in broad daylight, and took away cash amounting to Rs 16,000 and gold ornaments worth about Rs 1.5 lac. The house in question is owned by Manjunath Ganiga.

Manjunath Ganiga lives with his wife and son in the above house. At about 1 pm on Monday, Ganiga along with his family members, had gone to Shirur to attend the car festival there. He then had food in the house of a relative there, before reaching his home back at 3 pm. He found that his house had been burgled. The fact that theft took place in his house located in the busy main road which is frequented by vehicles, has baffled many in the region.

The thieves, in addition to picking up every valuable they could find in the house, also took away the box of offerings placed in the puja room. Ganiga says he had set aside money for different temples including Dharmasthala, and that the money so kept had amounted to to around Rs 1,500.

Kundapur assistant superintendent of police, Ram Niwas Sepat, circle inspector, Arun Naik, station house officer, Pavitra Teja, finger print experts, and sniffer dogs visited the place. A case was registered in Byndoor police station.
