Mangaluru: EGDK India, SJEC host 'HackToFuture 3.0' on industry-centric themes

Mangaluru, Apr 11: The third edition of HackToFuture, a 36-hour national-level hackathon, concluded successfully at St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Vamanjoor.

The event, held from April 7 to 9, was jointly organised by SJEC and EGDK India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Denmark-based EG A/S, and brought together over 2,000 aspiring innovators from across 21 states. The problem statements were curated and provided by EGDK India, ensuring relevance to real-time industry demands. Throughout the hackathon, participants received valuable mentorship from experts from both EGDK India and EG A/S Denmark, while the final evaluations were carried out by a panel of industry professionals.

This year’s hackathon centred around four key themes - healthcare and citizen welfare, industry and trade, construction and workforce management, and a mystery theme - challenging 44 shortlisted teams to solve real-world problems through technology.

A total cash prize of Rs 2.4 lac was awarded to the top-performing teams. The event was inaugurated by Peter Kayser, CFO, EG India and head of Shared Services Capability Centre, along with Jeevan D’Souza, Country HR Head, EGDK India. The ceremony was attended by Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director-SJEC, Fr Kenneth R Crasta, assistant director, and Dr Rio D’Souza, principal, SJEC.

The valedictory ceremony featured Eske Bo Rosenberg, consul general of Denmark and Head of Trade & Innovation, who lauded the collaborative spirit of the participants. “We need young bright minds who work across disciplines and borders. This hackathon is a shining example of how teamwork can drive impactful change,” he said.

Anand Fernandes, CEO & director of EG India, reiterated the company’s commitment to nurturing young talent. “Empowering the next generation of innovators is a responsibility we take seriously. HackToFuture is our investment in that vision,” he noted.

In the Healthcare and Citizen Welfare category, top honours went to team CodeCrew from Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Yelahanka, with team Alt+F4 from KLE Institute of Technology, Hubli, as runners-up.

In the Industry and trade theme, team Numeronauts from Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering, Mangaluru, secured first place, followed by team Hackathon-Gcoeara from Government College of Engineering and Research, Avasari Khurd. The construction and workforce management theme was led by team Integrated Innovators from Cambridge Institute of Technology, North Campus, Devanahalli, with team Code Brigade from the same institution emerging as runners-up.

The mystery theme saw Team Tricharm from Dayananda Sagar College of engineering, Bengaluru, clinching the top spot. Special recognitions included Team HogRiders from NITK Surathkal for best UI/UX design, and team HACK404, also from NITK, for best github repository structure. Dr Sridevi Saralay, head of the department of computer science and engineering, welcomed the gathering, while Dr Dayakshini, head of electronics and communication Engineering, proposed the vote of thanks. The event was compered by Varshitha Kulkarni from the CSBS department.

The flagship event of the college’s training and placement cell, conducted in collaboration with the departments of computer science and engineering and electronics and communication engineering, brought together some of the brightest student innovators from across the country.

HackToFuture 3.0 highlighted the power of collaboration, creativity, and determination, reinforcing SJEC’s commitment to fostering a vibrant culture of innovation and technological excellence.
