Mumbai, Aug 24: The campus of St Lawrence High School, Borivali West, resonated with patriotic fervour on August 15 as the school community gathered to celebrate the 79th Independence Day with grandeur, enthusiasm, and a deep sense of national pride. The occasion, which brought together students, parents, teachers, and distinguished guests, was marked by cultural performances, inspiring addresses, and moments of solemn remembrance.
The programme commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the chief guests, followed by the collective singing of the National Anthem. As the tricolour fluttered high against the morning sky, the atmosphere filled with a renewed sense of unity and pride. A Bible reading and special prayer then set a reflective tone for the ceremony, invoking blessings for peace, harmony, and the progress of the nation.

Principal Veena Almeida extended a warm welcome to the honoured guests, presenting them with saplings as a symbol of growth and sustainability. Among the dignitaries present were Raja Kumar (Defence – P/NVK, RPF), Lt Commander Tanu (INS Hamla), noted Marathi film actor Mihir Nishith Rajda, Pranali Marchand (Air India Cabin Crew), assistant police inspector Dadasaheb Vijaykumar Sidhe, and Dr Charmi Jain. Their presence, students later shared, made the occasion more memorable and inspiring.
The highlight of the morning was a vibrant cultural programme, where students performed patriotic songs, energetic dances, and powerful speeches. The performances celebrated India’s cultural diversity while underscoring themes of freedom, sacrifice, and unity.
In their addresses, the chief guests praised the students’ efforts and urged them to embrace their roles as the future custodians of the nation. They reminded the gathering that freedom was earned through immense sacrifice, and it is the responsibility of every citizen to uphold democratic values and contribute positively to society.
As part of the celebrations, winners of the Independence Day competitions in essay writing, elocution, and art were felicitated with prizes and certificates. The recognition highlighted the school’s commitment to nurturing creativity and encouraging students to express their patriotism in diverse forms.
The programme concluded with the school anthem followed by the National Song, sung in unison by the entire assembly. The event left behind a strong sense of pride, unity, and responsibility, reinforcing the belief that the spirit of independence must be lived every day and not just remembered once a year.
