Changwon, Apr 15: The city of Changwon is set to host the 2026 World Shooting Para Sport Championships from September 3 to 14, bringing together around 300 elite athletes from over 50 countries in what will be a key qualification event for the LA 2028 Paralympic Games.
The 10th edition of the prestigious event will mark a return to South Korea after eight years, with Cheongju previously hosting the Worlds in 2018. Changwon International Shooting Range, a familiar venue for shooters, has successfully hosted the World Shooting Para Sport World Cup for four consecutive years (2022–2025), and has previously been the stage for the ISSF World Championships in 2018 and the ISSF World Championships Juniors in 2023.

“We’re thrilled to return to Korea – a powerhouse in shooting Para sport – after eight years. Changwon is the ideal host for the first World Championships of the LA2028 Games cycle, with proven facilities and an experienced LOC,” said Tyler Anderson, Senior Manager of World Shooting Para Sport.
The 2026 edition will also be the fourth to feature Para Trap and Vision Impaired (VI) events as part of the integrated competition programme, further expanding the inclusivity and diversity of the championship.
The last World Championships, held in Lima, Peru in 2023, saw France top the medal tally with six golds. A total of 27 athletes were crowned world champions, and 33 athletes earned their spots for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The event also saw three new world records set, highlighting the increasing competitiveness of the sport.
The inaugural World Shooting Para Sport Championships took place in Bruges, Belgium in 1993, and since then, the event has grown into a cornerstone of the global Para sport calendar.
