New Delhi, Apr 21: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the evolving nature of modern warfare, stressing that soldiers must possess not only superior combat skills but also robust mental stability and spiritual empowerment.
Speaking at an event organized by the Brahma Kumaris Headquarters in Mount Abu, Singh underscored the increasing prevalence of cyber, space, information, and psychological warfare, necessitating soldiers with heightened mental fortitude. "The Brahma Kumaris’ campaign to bolster the mental health of soldiers is a commendable step in that direction," he said.
He asserted that national security relies not only on weaponry but also on the strength of character, enlightened consciousness, and awareness of its defenders. While acknowledging the fundamental importance of physical strength for soldiers, he emphasized the equal significance of mental resilience.

Soldiers often operate in challenging environments, and their ability to overcome these hardships stems from the inner strength they cultivate, Singh stated. He warned that prolonged stress, uncertainty, and difficult working conditions can negatively impact mental health, necessitating a focus on strengthening the inner self.
Singh believes that this initiative will fortify soldiers' mental resilience, particularly given the current global geopolitical climate. He lauded the campaign's theme, "Self-Empowerment - Through Inner Awakening," deeming it highly relevant in contemporary times.
"Self-transformation through meditation, Yoga, positive thinking and self-dialogue will provide mental, emotional and spiritual strength to our brave soldiers," he said.
He described spirituality and Yoga, deeply rooted in Indian culture, as powerful tools for enhancing mental well-being and managing stress, anxiety, and emotional distress. An alert and strong soldier, he said, serves as a beacon of strength for the nation, enabling it to withstand any adversity.
Singh commended the Security Service Wing (SSW) of the Brahma Kumaris for their efforts in supporting the security forces through various programs and initiatives.
During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence, and Headquarters SSW, Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation of Brahma Kumaris. The MoU aims to guide beneficiaries of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) towards improved mental health and reduced reliance on medication.
