New Delhi, Apr 22: Aiming to instil road safety values from a young age, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), in collaboration with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), launched a comprehensive online education programme titled Surakshit Safar, as part of a mega initiative to support India’s development journey towards 2047.
Speaking on Tuesday, Prashant K Banerjee, executive director of SIAM, described the programme as a pivotal step in bringing about a generational shift in safety awareness. “Road safety is a major hurdle in India’s development. Through this initiative, we want to nurture safe and responsible citizens from their early years,” he said.

The Surakshit Safar module was formally introduced at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 in Delhi Cantonment. Designed as a 40-minute interactive course, the module teaches road safety basics using child-friendly characters and relatable stories.
“For younger students, we’ve used animals like a tortoise and kangaroo to explain safety measures,” Banerjee shared. “The tortoise’s shell symbolizes helmets, while the kangaroo’s pouch is used to describe seat belts forming a mother-child narrative that children can easily connect with.”
For middle and high school students, more advanced modules featuring 3D animation and relatable everyday characters are in development. Each session is followed by a quiz to reinforce learning, and high-performing students are awarded certificates while others are encouraged to keep improving.
Kendriya Vidyalayas have already integrated the course into their monthly curriculum, with plans to expand it in multiple Indian languages. Banerjee added that if successful, the pilot project will be rolled out in Navodaya and other state-run schools nationwide.
“This initiative is not just about education it’s about building a safer future,” Banerjee concluded.
