Congress demands probe into security lapses, warns against communal polarisation

New Delhi, Apr 24: In a resolution adopted on April?24, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) expressed profound shock at the Pahalgam terror massacre and called for a full public inquiry into the intelligence failures and security gaps that allowed the attack in a heavily fortified Union Territory. Noting that Pahalgam operates under a three tier security grid directly overseen by the Home Ministry, the CWC insisted, “Only a transparent, comprehensive analysis can restore faith and deliver justice to the families devastated by this atrocity.”

The committee singled out the assailants’ strategy of singling out Hindu tourists “to inflame communal passions nationwide.” While condemning Pakistan as the architect behind this “cowardly and calculated act,” the CWC urged citizens to remain calm and united, reaffirming Congress’s long standing commitment to defeat cross border terrorism through collective resolve.

Paying homage to local pony handlers and guides—one of whom was martyred protecting visitors—the party lauded their bravery as emblematic of India’s indomitable spirit. Concerned about the looming Amarnath Yatra, the CWC called on the government to roll out “robust, transparent, and proactive” safeguards to protect pilgrims and support the region’s tourism dependent communities.

The resolution also criticized the BJP for allegedly exploiting the tragedy on social media to sow division at a time when national unity is paramount. “Turning grief into political fodder only deepens the wound,” the CWC warned, urging all parties to resist polarization and stand together against terror.
