Government holds all party briefing, global envoys updated on Pahalgam attack

New Delhi, Apr 24: The Centre convened an all party meeting on Thursday to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chairing and Home Minister Amit Shah addressing leaders from parties holding more than five parliamentary seats. Notably, smaller regional outfits, including AIMIM led by Asaduddin Owaisi, were excluded from the deliberations—a move that echoed previous briefings held after the Pulwama strike in 2019 and the 2020 India China standoff.

Earlier in the day, Shah and External Affairs Minister S.?Jaishankar updated President Droupadi Murmu on the attack’s fallout. At South Block, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri led a series of intensive briefings for foreign envoys—among them representatives from the US, UK, EU, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, China, Qatar, UAE, Oman, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Norway.

EU envoy Herve Delphin and Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov, alongside Gulf and Southeast Asian diplomats, each received detailed accounts of India’s response measures. This diplomatic outreach forms part of New Delhi’s strategy to galvanize international solidarity against terrorism and isolate those who sponsor such violence.
