New Delhi, Apr 27: India delivered an outstanding performance at the 2nd Asian Yogasana Sport Championship, clinching an impressive 83 gold medals, dominating the event held at the KD Jadhav Arena, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi.
The championship, which attracted participation from over 21 countries including Japan, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan, witnessed India’s remarkable achievement, further solidifying its leadership in the sport. In addition to the 83 gold medals, India secured three silver and one bronze, making it the undisputed champion of the event.
Japan finished second with three golds, three silver, and four bronze medals, while Mongolia, Oman, and Nepal rounded out the top five positions. The closing ceremony of the championship was a grand affair, attended by Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, Government of India, and Ajay Chaudhary, Additional Commissioner of Police, Delhi, along with officials from the Asian and World Yogasana federations.
Umang Dawn, Secretary General of the Asian Yogasana, opened the ceremony with a warm welcome, followed by an overview from Dr. Sanjay Malpani, President of the Asian Yogasana Federation. Dr. Jaideep Arya, Secretary General of the World Yogasana Federation, shared valuable insights on the increasing global prominence of Yogasana as a competitive sport.
Dr. Sanjay Malpani emphasized the holistic benefits of Yogasana, stating, “Yogasana not only strengthens the body but also nurtures mental resilience and focus, qualities essential for holistic well-being and societal progress.” He further praised the event for spreading these important messages globally.
Udit Sheth, President of Yogasana Bharat, concluded the ceremony by congratulating all participants and celebrating the growing recognition of Yogasana as a competitive sport.
