Mangaluru, May 4: In the aftermath of the murder of activist Suhas Shetty, two individuals have been arrested for posting provocative and inflammatory content on social media that is believed to have incited communal tensions in the region.
The posts, made from Instagram profiles of two right wing organisations, were designed to stir hatred and incite criminal activities among different religious and social groups, the police said.

The arrests followed complaints regarding content posted on Instagram profiles named Ashoknagar and Shankhanada, both associated with the organisations. Based on the inflammatory nature of the posts, a case was filed under Sections 353(1) and 353(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Urwa police station in Mangaluru. The case has now been transferred to the Mangaluru City CEN crime police for further investigation.
Akhilesh, a 26-year-old resident of Udupi, was identified as the individual responsible for posting the controversial material on the Instagram accounts. Authorities are investigating his role in posting content that allegedly fueled communal hatred, which may have led to potential criminal actions. During the investigation, the police are looking into the broader impact of these posts on public order and safety.
Separately, Dhanush, a resident of Belthangady, was also arrested in connection with a provocative video he posted on Instagram. The video is said to have incited communal hatred, compromising law and order.
A case was registered against him at the Punjalakatte police station under Sections 196(1)(A) and 353(1)(C) of the BNS-2023 Act on May 4.
Both individuals are currently being interrogated, and authorities have promised further investigation and action in response to the rising communal tensions. The police are working to ensure that those responsible for spreading hate and disruption are held accountable, and to prevent any escalation of violence.
