Bengaluru, May 7: In the wake of ‘Operation Sindoor’—India’s retaliatory airstrikes on Pakistan-based terror camps following the deadly Pahalgam attack - Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Wednesday assured that all measures have been taken to ensure civilian safety in the state.

"We are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of civilians. Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services (KSFES) teams have been deployed at key locations including power plants, dams, and airports," he told reporters at a press briefing in Bengaluru.

The Home Minister said that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of Defence (MoD) have already issued specific instructions following the strike. “The state Intelligence wing has been directed to maintain continuous coordination with central Intelligence agencies,” he added.

He clarified that sites already secured by central forces would remain under their protection, while state agencies would handle jurisdictions under their command. “I have directed the police to take all necessary precautions,” he said.

On the question of Pakistani nationals currently in Karnataka, Parameshwara stated: “Pakistani nationals have already been identified and sent back. We are in contact with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), and further steps will be taken based on the information they provide.”

He also said that a civil defence drill was conducted at 4 pm today as part of precautionary and preparedness measures.

Expressing firm support for the military operation, Parameshwara remarked: “The entire nation supports the Indian defence forces for carrying out strikes on Pakistan-based terrorist camps. Following the terrorist gun attack on tourists in Pahalgam, we all support this retaliatory action. To safeguard the nation’s interests, we must stand united. The public will stand with the country's defence forces.”

When asked about the Congress cancelling a scheduled protest rally in Raichur, the home minister justified the move, saying: “National security is more important than any other event. That is why the Chief Minister cancelled it. At a time when the country’s safety is at stake, any minor differences or disagreements among us must be set aside. We must unite in defence of the nation.”
