Mangaluru, May 10: In a remarkable feat of modern medicine, a team of skilled surgeons from the Centre for craniofacial anomalies and the department of Neurosurgery at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital successfully performed a complex craniofacial surgery, offering a new lease of life to one-year-old Master Khaza Mainuddin Hubballi.

The four-hour high-risk procedure, performed under the leadership of Dr Srinivas Gosla Reddy, Dr Manoj H P, and Dr H Hari Kishore Bhat, aimed to correct a rare condition known as synostosis trigonocephaly—a congenital cranial deformity. The surgery combined cutting-edge 3D imaging, intricate microsurgical techniques, and custom-made implants to ensure complete neurological, functional, and aesthetic restoration.

The multidisciplinary surgical team also included Dr Vinayak B Nayak (paediatric and cardiac anaesthetist), Dr Smitha (neuro anaesthetist), and Dr Mithun H K (paediatrician), all of whom played a critical role in the successful outcome and smooth recovery of the young patient.

“This surgery is a testament to the advancements in craniofacial reconstruction and the dedication of our multidisciplinary team,” said Dr Akhter Husain, director of the centre for craniofacial anomalies. “Our goal is always to enhance the patient’s quality of life and confidence.”

The patient has shown promising recovery post-surgery with excellent morpho functional repair, and the family has expressed immense satisfaction and gratitude for the outcome.

Dr Akhter Husain further noted that the centre for craniofacial anomalies is supported by Smile Train, an international organisation that aids cleft surgeries and related treatments. He stressed that a multidisciplinary approach and state-of-the-art infrastructure at the centre have been instrumental in achieving such high levels of surgical success.

The Yenepoya Medical College Hospital continues to raise the bar in specialised medical care, particularly in treating rare and complex craniofacial conditions, reaffirming its commitment to excellence and compassionate service.
