Mangaluru: ‘Asmita’ programme by Sahitya Akademi celebrates women writers at World Konkani Centre

Mangaluru, May 12:
On the occasion of International Mother's Day, a special programme titled Asmita, dedicated to the presentation and appreciation of women’s literature, was held at the World Konkani Centre on Sunday, May 11.

The event was organised by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation, Shaktinagar, Mangaluru.

Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar awardee Wilma from Bantwal presided over the programme and recited poems centred on motherhood.

 

Diana Sharel Lobo and Mary Salomi D’Souza presented poetry, Felcy Lobo read an essay, and Smitha Shenoy narrated a short story. Poet Melvyn Rodrigues, coordinator of the Sahitya Akademi Konkani Advisory Board, delivered an introductory talk on the Akademi’s initiatives and the Asmita programme.

Dr B Devadas Pai, chief administrative officer of the World Konkani Centre, welcomed the gathering. H M Pernal, writer, journalist, and member of the Sahitya Akademi Konkani Advisory Board, compered the programme and delivered the vote of thanks.

Writers and literature enthusiasts from Mangaluru, Udupi, and Kerala attended the event.
