New Delhi, May 14: In a high-level meeting at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu was briefed by the top military leadership on the execution and impact of Operation Sindoor, India’s decisive military response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
The briefing was led by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan and included the three service chiefs—General Upendra Dwivedi (Army), Air Chief Marshal AP Singh (Air Force), and Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi (Navy).
According to a statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President commended the courage, professionalism, and relentless spirit of the Indian Armed Forces, whose swift and targeted action dealt a significant blow to terrorist infrastructure operating across the border.
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 and temporarily paused on May 10 after a request from Pakistan, targeted and dismantled nine terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation reportedly neutralized over a hundred heavily armed terrorists, including those affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Notably, key training centres in Muridke and Bahawalpur, linked to previous high-profile attacks like Pulwama, were obliterated.
The military offensive was initiated following the horrific April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, in which 26 Hindu pilgrims, including a Nepali national, were brutally killed. The massacre triggered nationwide outrage and led to the swift formulation of a military response.
Speaking on the current status of the operation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that while the offensive is currently paused, India’s stand on terrorism is non-negotiable. “Any future act of terror will be treated as an act of war,” he declared.
Operation Sindoor has been hailed as a turning point in India’s counter-terror strategy, sending a strong message across the border about India’s zero-tolerance approach toward terrorism and cross-border hostility.
