Pune, May 16: In a disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the region, a 36-year-old woman from Nagpur has gone missing under mysterious circumstances near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kargil district, Ladakh. The incident occurred on May 14, when the woman left her 15-year-old son behind at a hotel and ventured into Hunderban, the last village near the LoC — and never returned.
Speaking to TOI, Kargil’s Additional Superintendent of Police Nitin Yadav confirmed, “The woman had checked into a hotel on May 9 along with her teenage son. On May 14, she left the boy at the hotel, informing no one of her plans. When she didn’t return by nightfall, the hotel staff alerted police.”

Police immediately launched a search operation. The son informed authorities that the duo had been touring various places, including Punjab, before reaching Kargil.
What has intensified concerns is the fact that the woman went missing from a sensitive border village close to the LoC. “It’s deeply worrying,” said ASP Yadav. “We have formed a special search team and are combing the area thoroughly. However, we’ve found no concrete leads so far.”
Investigations have revealed that the woman had been divorced for over a decade, and had previously worked as a nurse in private hospitals across Mumbai and Nagpur. She later took up tailoring — a business now managed by her two sisters.
Relatives are cooperating with the police, providing crucial background information. “She has no known mental health issues, and there were no red flags before the trip,” added sources.
In the meantime, the woman’s 15-year-old son remains in Kargil and is currently under the care of the Women and Child Welfare Committee. “The boy is traumatised by the incident,” said ASP Yadav. “We are taking care of him and have refrained from pushing him for details. He will be handed over to relatives once statutory procedures are completed.”
The Kargil police are continuing the search operation near the LoC, and authorities are not ruling out any possibility — accidental disappearance, personal distress, or more serious implications.
As the search enters a critical phase, local officials and security forces remain on high alert.
