Panaji, Jun 3: In a move set to bolster Goa’s financial standing, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Monday received Rs 5.21 crore from EDC Goa Limited at a ceremonial event in the state capital. The amount includes Rs 86.20 lakh as dividend and Rs 4.35 crore as interest proceeds on land acquisition, signalling the state’s strategic push to maximize returns on public investments.

The presentation was made in the presence of Member of Parliament Sadanand Shet Tanavade and other senior dignitaries.

According to government sources, the funds are expected to be channelled towards key infrastructure projects, social welfare schemes, and initiatives aimed at improving public service delivery.

“These funds represent the success of our policy of responsible investment and optimal utilisation of state-owned assets,” Dr Sawant remarked at the event.

EDC Goa Limited, the state’s leading financial institution for economic development, has played a pivotal role in land acquisition financing, industrial support, and entrepreneurial funding in the region.

Officials confirmed that the interest proceeds were generated from land acquisition advances made by EDC on behalf of the state, while the dividend reflects the corporation’s strong financial performance during the last fiscal year.

Dr Sawant emphasized that his government remains committed to financial transparency and progressive development.

“We will ensure every rupee received is translated into impactful work on the ground, benefiting the people of Goa,” he added.

This disbursement is expected to further strengthen Goa’s fiscal framework and accelerate its ongoing transformation into a model state for sustainable growth.
