Tehran, Jun 25: In a chilling development following the recent ceasefire between Iran and Israel, Iran has executed three men accused of spying for the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. The executions were carried out on Wednesday morning in Urmia, a city near Iran’s northwestern border with Turkey, the Iranian judiciary confirmed.
The three men — Idris Ali, Azad Shojai, and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul — were convicted of importing equipment into the country with the alleged aim of carrying out assassinations on Iranian soil. Officials claimed they were acting "in favour of the Zionist regime."
Photos released by Iranian authorities showed the trio in blue prison uniforms ahead of their execution. The judiciary emphasized that the verdicts were delivered after swift trials, reflecting Tehran’s hardline stance in the wake of its recent military confrontation with Israel.
The latest executions come just a day after a temporary ceasefire was brokered between the two arch-rivals, following nearly two weeks of conflict that had seen escalating attacks and counter-attacks.
Iranian courts have already sentenced and executed several individuals accused of espionage and alleged links with Mossad earlier this week. Tehran has vowed zero tolerance toward collaborators with foreign intelligence services, especially in the context of national security threats.
According to global rights watchdogs such as Amnesty International, Iran remains the second-highest executor of capital punishment globally, behind China — a trend that continues to draw international condemnation.
