Birmingham, Jul 6: Team India etched a glorious chapter in its cricketing history by securing a monumental 336-run victory over England in the second Test at Edgbaston, marking their first-ever Test win at the venue.
Having played eight Tests at Birmingham prior to this clash — losing seven and drawing one — the odds were stacked against the visitors. India's maiden appearance at the venue dates back to 1967, a game they lost by 132 runs. The only consolation over the decades was a draw under the captaincy of the legendary Kapil Dev in 1986.

With this resounding win, India has become the first Asian team to breach the Birmingham fortress, a feat never achieved by Pakistan or Sri Lanka in 18 combined attempts. The victory also registers as India’s fourth-biggest win in terms of runs across all Test matches, and the best-ever overseas result in terms of margin.
The hero of the moment was captain Shubman Gill, who delivered a masterclass with the bat. Gill amassed a staggering 430 runs in the match, including a monumental 269 in the first innings — the highest individual score by an Indian Test captain. His performance rightfully earned him the Player of the Match honour.
With this historic win, India not only levels the series but also sends a strong message ahead of the upcoming matches. The team, under the young leadership of Shubman Gill, has shown tremendous grit and determination — rewriting records and restoring pride at a venue once synonymous with defeat.
Cricket fans back home and across the globe erupted in celebration as India's long wait for glory in Birmingham finally came to a glorious end.
