Mangaluru, Jul 10: As the monsoon rains intensify across Dakshina Kannada (DK), temperatures have begun to dip, bringing a noticeable chill in the air. With the onset of cold weather, the demand for warm blankets naturally rises—and right on cue, seasonal blanket traders from North India, particularly Panipat in Haryana, have made their presence felt.
These traders, travelling in teams from Panipat, have launched their annual monsoon sales campaign across the state. They bring with them a wide range of warm clothing including thick blankets, bed sheets, and winter garments, which they sell directly to customers at their doorsteps.

In large numbers, the traders are strategically dispersed across districts in Karnataka, conducting door-to-door sales. They transport bulk loads of blankets and bed sheets from Panipat and target the monsoon season as their peak sales period in southern parts of the country. Their business model is based on seasonal demand, and their presence during the cold, wet months ensures brisk sales.
The blankets on sale range from Rs 200 to Rs 2,500, offering options for all types of customers. The variety and direct approach of these vendors have made them popular among local households.
While shopping malls also offer similar products, buying from these door-to-door vendors is often more appealing to customers. Unlike fixed prices at malls, these traders allow for bargaining, which draws more buyers and adds a personalized shopping experience.
Panipat is known as a hub for blanket and bed sheet manufacturing, housing several large-scale factories that supply not only to India but also to international markets. The traders aim to clear their stock before the end of the monsoon season, after which they return to their hometowns in Haryana.
With growing demand each year, the Panipat blankets have carved a niche for themselves in Karnataka’s monsoon market, bringing warmth and convenience directly to people’s doorsteps.
