Sanaa, Jul 10: Yemen’s Houthi forces launched a ballistic missile toward Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport early Thursday, in what they described as retaliation for the ongoing war in Gaza. The Israeli military confirmed that the missile, launched from Yemen, was intercepted by its defense systems after air raid sirens sounded in areas including Tel Aviv.
In a televised statement on Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, the group’s military spokesperson Yahya Sarea claimed the missile strike had “achieved its goal,” vowing further attacks until Israel ends its offensive in Gaza and lifts the blockade.
Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency service reported no injuries, though local media said missile debris ignited a fire near Jerusalem. This is the latest in a string of Houthi attacks aimed at Israeli territory and commercial vessels in the Red Sea.
The strike comes just days after the Houthis claimed to have launched a “hypersonic ballistic missile” at Israel on July 6 and to have sunk two ships—most recently the Greek-owned bulk carrier Eternity C—as part of their escalating operations against Israeli interests.
Sarea reiterated that the group will continue targeting Israeli-linked vessels and infrastructure until the situation in Gaza changes.
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts remain underway, with Israel and Hamas agreeing to resume ceasefire and hostage negotiations in Qatar.
