Tel Aviv, Jul 11: In a major push toward regional development, the Israeli government has signed landmark agreements with the northern cities of Safed and Nahariya, paving the way for tens of thousands of new housing units and transformative urban infrastructure.
The agreements, spearheaded by Minister of Construction and Housing Haim Katz, follow the successful clearance of long-standing bureaucratic hurdles through a newly proposed framework for signing city-wide “roof agreements” — comprehensive plans for urban expansion and redevelopment.
Under these agreements, the Israeli government will invest over 4 billion Shekels (approximately $1.2 billion) to bolster infrastructure and civic amenities in both cities. The plans include the development of major infrastructure, public institutions, employment hubs, and tourism facilities, alongside neighborhood rehabilitation and long-term urban planning.
“The new agreements represent a turning point for Safed and Nahariya, enabling housing expansion, economic growth, and a better quality of life for residents,” the Ministry of Construction and Housing stated.
Officials added that the initiative is also aimed at attracting new populations to the northern region while enhancing living conditions for existing residents. The projects are expected to create a ripple effect, boosting employment, tourism, and urban renewal in the long term.
