Pune, Jul 20: In a major embarrassment for law enforcement, two police personnel from Ravet Police Station in Pimpri-Chinchwad were caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 to shield a suspect from arrest.
The accused officials have been identified as Head Constable Rajshree Ravi Ghode and Assistant Police Constable Rakesh Shantaram Palande.
According to ACB DySP Satish Walke, the complainant, a lawyer, approached the bureau after Ghode allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 to avoid arresting the lawyer's client in a criminal case and to manipulate the chargesheet. The bribe was later negotiated down to Rs 30,000.
Acting swiftly, the ACB laid a trap on Friday and caught Ghode red-handed inside the police station while accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses.
The process of registering a case against both accused personnel is currently underway at Ravet Police Station.
