Mangaluru: Three youths nabbed for breaking into religious donation boxes in Bantwal

Mangaluru, Aug 2: Police have detained three young men in connection with the theft of cash from two religious donation boxes in Delantabettu, Kanyana village, under Bantwal taluk.

The incident came to light when 72-year-old D Narayana Rao, president of a local religious faith centre and a resident of Delantabettu, visited the donation boxes on July 26.

The boxes, which were installed beside the Delantabettu school and near the road below Delantabettu church, had been forcefully broken open. Rao discovered that approximately Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 in collected offerings had been stolen.

A case was immediately registered at the Vittal police station under Crime No. 95/2025, invoking Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Following investigation, police apprehended three accused, all residents of Vittal Kasaba village in Bantwal. They are identified as Twahid (19), Ummar Farooq (18) and Mohammad Nabeel (18).

The trio is currently in custody as further inquiry is underway to determine their involvement and whether they are linked to similar incidents in the region.
