Mangaluru: Poems turn into songs at Mandd Sobhann's Kalangann

Mangaluru, Aug 4: The 284th edition of Mandd Sobhann's monthly cultural program series, titled Kavita Fulotha, was held with grandeur at Kalangann on August 3.

The event began with a tribute to the recently deceased Konkani writer Gladys Rego, with writer Rony Arun offering a eulogy and Rohith Sanctus, director of Paschim Trust, placing floral tributes. Mandd Sobhann office-bearers Eric Ozario, Elron Rodrigues, Clara D'Cunha, Rayna Sequeira, and Karen Motha were present. The program was officially inaugurated with a bell-ringing ceremony by Everest Crasta.

The highlight of the evening was the musical presentation of twelve Konkani poems by noted poet and Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy member Rony Crasta Kelarai. These poems were set to music and sung by performers including Eric Ozario, Joyce Ozario, Shilpa Coutinho, Sunil Monteiro, Robin Sequeira, Raynal Sequeira, Sonal Monteiro, Jeevan Siddi, Prithuma Monteiro, Simon Monteiro, and Alani D'Souza. Music was directed by Sanjay Rodrigues, with accompaniment by Roshan Bel, Sanjeeth Rodrigues, Vikhshit, and Stalin D'Souza.

Nach Sobhann member Delishia Pereira presented a dance choreographed by Rahul Pinto to the song Mhayn'ge Mhaje Konkani (O Mother Konkani). A painting created by artist Wilson Kayyar, inspired by the song, was auctioned in support of local artists. Language enthusiast Olwin Rodrigues won the auction, while Gloria Vegas assisted in conducting the sale.

Rony Crasta concluded the program by beautifully narrating the transformation of poems into songs and emceed the musical session.
