Udupi, Aug 6: The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), Udupi district unit, has issued a stern warning, stating that it will launch an intense protest if all shops, showrooms, hotels, and other commercial establishments in the district do not install nameplates with at least 60 percent Kannada language within the next 15 days.
A R Prabhakar Poojary, president Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Udupi district, addressing the media in the press conference held on August 6, said, “As per the state government's directive, 60 percent of the text on name boards of shops, showrooms, hotels, schools, and colleges must be in Kannada. However, this rule is not being followed in Udupi. We have brought this to the attention of the deputy commissioner and are also submitting a memorandum to the city municipal commissioner.”

He further added, “In Udupi without any differentiation in power the rule must apply uniformly to all establishments across Udupi. If Kannada name boards are not implemented within 15 days, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike will be forced to stage a fierce protest. The city municipal commissioner has assured us that action will be taken against violators as per the law. That is why we are setting a deadline of 15 days. We are in Karnataka, why is there hesitation to use Kannada? As part of our protest, we will blacken name boards that are only in English.
General secretary Hemanth, vice president Anil, vice president Sahabudin, and district convener Kiran Pinto, were present in the press conference.
