Mangaluru: Police arrest four for MDMA peddling; drugs, vehicles seized

Mangaluru, Aug 7: The Mangaluru city central crime police have arrested four individuals on charges of peddling the banned narcotic MDMA and have registered a case under the NDPS Act in connection with the offence.

The arrested have been identified as Devaraj Poojary alias Devu (38), a resident of Sampige Nagar in Udyavara village of Udupi taluk and district; Jeevan Amin (32), a resident of Padu Palipar village in Kaup taluk; Imran (40), a resident of Thiruvail village in Moodushedde post, Mangaluru; and B Mohammad Hanif (56), a resident of Dambel, Ashoknagar post, Mangaluru city.

Based on a tip-off, the CEN station police raided Padpu House near Bangre Kulur in Padukodi village on August 7, where the accused were allegedly preparing to sell MDMA. During the operation, police seized 51 grams of MDMA, seven mobile phones used in the crime, a Maruti Baleno, a Mahindra Scorpio, Rs 11,990 in cash, and other items. The estimated value of the seized drug is around Rs 2,500 per gram.

Devaraj Poojary is said to be involved in peddling MDMA in Udupi, Shivamogga, and Mangaluru, while the others are reportedly active in Mangaluru city. Police said the MDMA was being packed in small quantities and sold to the public. Further investigation is underway.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior officials of Mangaluru city police, with officers and staff of the central crime station playing a key role in the detection.
