Mumbai, Aug 11: India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who played only three out of five Tests in the recent England series, is facing heavy criticism from fans on social media for missing two matches. The series ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw, with India clinching a narrow six-run win in the final Test at The Oval.

Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun has come out strongly in Bumrah’s defence, calling the criticism “unfair” and highlighting the bowler’s impressive performances in the matches he played.

“It’s sad to hear such things about Bumrah. He underwent serious surgery, and it’s not like he is fully healed. His back condition is very delicate,” Arun told The Indian Express. He added, “This is not about picking and choosing. Just months ago, he was hailed as the world’s greatest fast bowler in Australia. In the three Tests he played, he took two five-wicket hauls.”

Arun emphasised the importance of managing Bumrah’s workload carefully to preserve his fitness for the long term. “The decision to limit him to three Tests was made well before the series to prevent undue pressure. His body demands this caution,” he said.

“He’s fighting hard to continue representing India despite all these challenges, and that effort deserves respect,” Arun concluded.
