New Delhi, Aug 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hailed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the world’s largest non-governmental organisation, crediting it for a century of contribution towards nation-building.
Speaking on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, PM Modi said, “The RSS was formed 100 years ago. It has always been involved in nation building and is dedicated to India’s service. I am proud of its history.”

The RSS, under the leadership of Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, is preparing for grand centenary celebrations. The flagship event, 100 Years of Sangh Yatra – New Horizons, will be held from August 26 to 28 at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi.
The programme will feature lectures, dialogues, and interactions with influencers from 17 fields, including media, diplomacy, religion, and academia. Mr Bhagwat is expected to engage directly with various sections of society during the event.
Centenary interactions are also planned in other cities — Bengaluru in November, and Kolkata and Mumbai in February next year.
While diplomats from across the world will be invited, sources said envoys from Pakistan, Turkey, and Bangladesh will not be extended invitations.
