Bantwal, Aug 15: In line with the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee’s (KPCC) directive to raise public awareness on constitutional protection during Independence Day, a constitution awareness programme was held at B C Road on Thursday. The event was organized jointly by the Bantwal and Panemangalore Block Congress Committees.

The programme was held under the leadership of former minister B Ramanath Rai, who used the platform to strongly back Rahul Gandhi’s campaign against voter fraud.

“I fully support the fight Rahul Gandhi is leading against electoral fraud,” said Ramanath Rai, addressing the gathering. He took a direct dig at the BJP while speaking on the alleged failures of the Election Department.

“If it's the Election Department’s failure, they are the ones who should respond. But why is the BJP jumping to reply? Does that mean the BJP is involved in voter fraud?” he asked pointedly.

Rai stressed that manipulations in the electoral process have caused serious injustice to genuine voters and demanded that the inclusion of names in the voters’ list be conducted transparently and fairly. He said such malpractice undermines democracy and must be addressed without delay.

The event saw the participation of several senior Congress leaders including Chandraprakash Shetty Tumbe, Padmashekhar Jain, Vasu Poojary, Baby Kundar, Pius L Rodrigues, Jayanti Poojary, Ida Suresh, Nawaz Badakabail, Suresh Navoor, Denzil, Venkappa Poojary, Jagadeesh Kundar, as well as Block Congress presidents Balakrishna Anchan and Chandrashekhar Bhandari. A large number of Congress workers were also in attendance.
